Vacancies

TheSPACE operates a residential therapeutic community, incorporating School and Children's Home, and a Human Givens Therapy, Education and Training Centre.

Due to expansion, we have changed the name of our school (previously known as Woodlands) to Fellside. The Fellside School site comprises of a Middle School for five young people aged 7-12, an Upper School for seven young people aged 12-16 and a semi-independent bungalow for two young people aged 16-19.

To work effectively with young people we, at TheSPACE, believe it is vital to understand the basic physical and emotional needs that are common to us all. Equally important is the need to understand the resources (the skills and abilities forming part of this same genetic inheritance) that enable us to get those needs met. It is the quality of the way those needs are met that determines the physical and emotional health of an individual.

The young people at Fellside are very clear about the sort of person needed to be part of the staff team. In their own words, you will need to be:

  • calm (not wind us up)
  • confident (not scared of us)
  • firm but fair: able to deal with things when they happen (not put it off until later)
  • able to listen well (to hear what it is we really have to say)
  • able to help us to sort out problems and learn for ourselves (give us help with options, not tell us what to do)
  • able to treat us as individuals (not seeing all behaviours as the same)
  • able, most of all, to treat us in the way you yourself would want to be treated

Your background is less important than your ability to respond positively to these requirements. Have you the special qualities our young people need?
